Couples Therapy
When every conversation ends in the same place
the problem is often the pattern, not the people.
In-person in Farmington • Telehealth across Connecticut
Couples rarely come to therapy because they don't love each other enough. More often, they come because they've become trapped in patterns that neither person understands. One partner reaches for connection while the other pulls away. A simple disagreement escalates into a fight neither of you intended to have. Both people leave feeling unseen, misunderstood, and wondering how the same argument happened again. Couples therapy isn't about deciding who's right. It's about slowing those moments down so we can understand the attachment patterns, protective responses, and nervous system reactions driving them.
Most couples don't argue about dishes, texting back, or whose turn it is to plan date night. Those are usually the surface-level problems.
Underneath them are deeper questions:
"Can I trust you'll be there for me?"
"Do I matter to you?"
"Am I safe bringing my needs to you?"
I don't believe lasting change happens by teaching couples communication scripts alone. Communication matters, but it's much easier to communicate differently once you understand why you're reacting the way you are. My work focuses on helping couples recognize the emotional patterns beneath conflict so they can respond to each other with greater clarity, safety, and connection.
